Dive sites of the “Grevelingen”

The Grevelingen also holds a lot of possible dive sites. The most popular are: “het Koepeltje”; “Langedijk”; “haven Scharendijke”; “Gemaal Dreischor”.

Het Koepeltje
This is a site very near the “Brouwerdam” that lies between the North Sea and the Grevelingen. This site is ideal for families because there is a large sandy beach with a shallow enclosed part for swimmers. It’s quite a climb over the dike to enter the beach. A long stairway leads you from the car park to the dive site. Here you can find a lot of animals than live in the North Sea due to the location very near by the floot-gate in the “Brouwersdam”. The aquatic life mainly consists of “oisters, sea squirts, various weeds, goby’s, butterfish, viviparous blenny, eel, short spined sea scorpions, anemones, crabs, hermit crabs, lobsters, pipefish.

Langedijk
This site is located at a very large car park which you cannot miss when you drive from the places Scharendijke to den Osse. This site is very suitable for large groups like diving clubs. From the car park there is a stairway which leads you over the dike to the dive site. There is even a small stairway that helps you get into the water easily. Underwater you will find large rocks and big concrete plates that are parallel to the dike. Look around and you will find: crabs, lobsters, anemones, various species of fish, shrimps and starfish. Around 8 meters deep you will find a reefball reef.

Haven Scharendijke
This site is located directly next to the harbour of Scharendijke. Beware not to dive near the entrance of the harbour. Normally you will not come that far. It’s best to dive around one of the dam-weir. Left of the first dam-weir you will find one of the reefball reefs. The reef can easily be found because it’s marked with two red buoys. Right to the second dam dam-weir around seven meters you will find a small wreck, an ideal hide out for shy animals like tadpole fish and lobsters. The other animals you can find are mostly the same as around “het koepeltje”.

Gemaal Dreischor
This dive site near Dreischor is probably one of the oldest and well known dive site in the Grevelingen. It’s easy to enter the water once you are over the dike. Beware of the stones, they can be very slippery. It’s best to turn right once you are in the water. This will lead you along a lot of rocks where the usual “Grevelingen” animals live. After a while you will find the columns of the pumping station. These columns are covered with anemones, sea squirts and mussels. This makes the pumping station one of the most popular places for underwater photographers. You will also find starfish, various species of small fish ea. on and around the columns.
